I was at the flea market a few years ago and bought a huge stack of piano notes. When I got home and flipped through them, tumbled out a large and nicely double-short in white with gold lettering: "50 years". Inside the card there was a lot of telegrams, dated 11 December 1948. Aagot in Schultz street got congratulations on 50årsdagen from Bertha and Ivar, Sonja and Sverre, Margit and Victor et al - But it was the most touching card. It was from her best friend Vivi. Vivi had pasted a picture of Aagot, and also posted a long prologue to her birthday. The picture above shows the last three verses. (It fascinates me that "vidunderligt" rhymes with "envy Excellent" ...) I can imagine this meant a lot of celebrating, and so it is a bit sad that it's been taken care of by the descendants (if any). Now it sits in my piano bench, and hereby are memories of Aagot birthday dusted off and presented to my dear readers, nearly 60 years later. (It is really a pity that telegrams have disappeared. Text messaging is not the same ... and prologues - when you got a special daily telegram obituaries written prologue last? Someday I'll write a prologue for you and post in this blog!)
Oh, it was quite touching to read really. Imagine how banal all our communications are the basis of today's technology. I think only of how many text messages I send to my boyfriend during a day, sometimes I wonder if it's good or bad ... 7:44 PM
Torill: Communication as such is well good form anyway :) But I really miss writing letters and getting handwritten letters daily telegram obituaries from others - now currently ranks I the person to mail a hundred times in the time it takes to send a letter in the mail . I tend to write cards to my friends - in everyday life and not on vacation. When I write cozy things, but not the same as they are at significantly more frequently updated emails! And then maybe a little longer between the emails that week I send cards, so I do not reveal everything :) Besides, it's a little hobby to find cards that fit the recipient :) 12:54 AM
It was a beautiful thing. Quite touching, yes. I think the idea of sending cards to people like that in the middle of everyday life was really good. I also have a drawer full of cards, but many of them are so bizarre that I can not fault people for them! Other than that, a lot of good communication both by email and text messages, and blogs as well - many people know each other irl you know. I think it is a wrong track thinking that it's 'end' communication because we do not send handwritten letters anymore (almost).
