A blog where he talks about male condition, secularism, U.S. politics, culture and many other topics of interest in a tone bold, incisive and playfully irreverent ...
While assisted telegram dictionary suicide pays the cuff, its close relative, mercy killing, also deserves our attention. Unlike the first, the second act does not mean that said victim is conscious or willing to end his days.
The case of Robert Latimer, who had been sentenced to life imprisonment in 1993 for the murder of his daughter Tracy, could not be better embodies the stubborn struggle for the recognition of the legitimacy of mercy killing. Whether right or wrong, we can not blame the man missing or courage, or consistency, stubborn in maintaining the correctness of its decision. Here, in this regard, one of my op-eds, published in 2007, which is, I believe, the issues of ongoing debate.
On December 6 (2007, NES), the anniversary of the slaughter of Polytechnique, one of the worst serial killers in Britain, Allitt, saw his appeal rejected. The High Court in London has instead imposed a minimum sentence of 30 years in prison. This nurse, dubbed the "Angel of Death", was sentenced to life in 1993 for the murder of four children, telegram dictionary including three babies and mentally handicapped boy of 11 years. Justice had also been convicted telegram dictionary of three other attempted murder and have permanently disabled six patients. A craving telegram dictionary for notoriety was the motive for the crimes, but nothing is certain.
This is ironically the same year, in 1993, the Saskatchewan farmer Robert Latimer had been also sentenced to life in prison for second degree murder of his daughter Tracy, severely handicapped. The child, who required constant care from his parents for 12 years, was born with cerebral palsy and would never exceed the mental capacity of a child of three months.
Another coincidence is the eve of appeal dismissed the nurse homicide Latimer was denied a request for parole. The National Parole Board believed that the man had "not developed enough introspection and understanding of (her) actions. "In fact, the incarcerated father has never wavered one iota of his story. "Kill my daughter was the right thing to do," he would continue. Obviously this was the wrong answer.
Admit it would have been unlikely that the judicial system, purporting to "protect the most vulnerable people," understand and admit the reason today who once led a life sentence. Judges could at best be accused of inconsistency, at worst, have unjustly condemned a man who did something reprehensible in itself, but excusable, given the circumstances. This risk, the Commission did not want to take it. At most, she extended a slender pole, recommending the Correctional Service of Canada Latimer telegram dictionary take part in a therapy for a next request for release in two years.
If only Tracy's father had expressed remorse, contrition. If only he had shed a few tears, confessing that he wanted to go back, go back in time, just before the fatal act that would end a life and ruin his. If only he apologized, not trusting the health care system, which might have ended up supporting both parents exhausted by a grueling task and inhuman. If only he had shown his faith in divine telegram dictionary providence, the progress of science, pilgrimages to Lourdes miracles.
None of it. Latimer belongs to the race of men of principle, certainly capable of extreme acts, but also bear the consequences, even if it means an extended stay at the expense of the state. Is not it confusing that the Canadian telegram dictionary justice system treats a father weeping as hard as the British courts, a psychopath killer. This is probably the price of integrity, for those who do not give the right answer.
It seems that today Latimer continues to bear the brunt of his convictions. Yet recently, the 57 year old man does not always qualified telegram dictionary in the eyes of the Commissi
