By order of the Minister of the Economy and Employment, October 16, 2012, the Government decided to promote the realization of a public consultation to assess the necessity and / or appropriateness of maintaining the provision of fixed telex, switched transmission data, telegraph and maritime mobile component in their public correspondence in terms of public service.
The above services are being provided by PT Comunicações (PTC), pursuant to Decree-Law n. º 31/2003 of 17 February, under the bases of the grant approved by that law.
Given the time elapsed since the publication of Decree-Law n. º 31/2003, the technological developments that have been made with the introduction and spread of new technologies, services potentially substitutes, taking into account also the level of use of these Additional services and interest on the part of the market in providing a commercial offering that spans the Government considered it appropriate to reflect on the need to continue to ensure that they provide a perspective of public service.
